Thanks to all who came and made the first Book Club of 2025 a success! I was beyond thrilled to see so many people come out and celebrate The House in the Cerulean Sea and my debut as moderator.
As a whole, I think this group enjoyed the book. Most found this novel to be more complex than it first seemed, but filled with kindness and empathy, swirling with messages of tolerance, good and evil, and even nature vs. nurture. The characters conjured up images and notions of living what you’re told about yourself and being given the space to grow into what you want to become.
Our February selection is Hidden Figures by Margot Jay Shetterly. This non-fiction book covers the time period between the 1930’s and the 1960’s and tells the true story of Black female mathematicians who worked at NASA during the Space Race, and it also explores themes of racism and gender discrimination, perseverance, and triumph over adversity.
All of the Book Club Kit copies are spoken for, but you can still find a copy or two at the library, along with digital editions available on Libby and Palace Project. If you finish your copy quickly, please return it to me so someone else might get the chance to read. Also, if you still have a copy of November’s book, Earth Keeper, please return it to me promptly.
Hope to see you soon!
Happy Reading~
Cindie
